WHAT TO DO BEFORE MOVING TO A NEW HOUSE
Packing
One of the main tips we can give you to carry out your moving is to start a month before by packaging the thing you do not want to use as books, dishes and glasses, clothes of the past season.
Labelling
Write on the closing tape of each box its contents: once arrived at your new place, you will need something that is still inside the boxes; this trick will be very helpful.
Pay attention
Pay particular attention to medicines and your valuables: keep them always with you.
Check the storage of your medicines and keep them away from children.
Utility connection
Contact a plumber for a visit at your new place at least the day after your arrival: the gas/electricity connections can only be carried out by qualified companies.
At hand
The last boxes will contain crucial material, for this reason, you have to specify the content even better on these boxes that will be your emergency kit during the moving.
Refrigerator and freezer
Two weeks before moving, begin to consume the frozen foods to avoid throwing the content of your freezer.
Three or four days before, it is advisable to start consuming the other foods contained in the refrigerator, to clean it carefully.
Closing old utilities
Disassemble the satellite dish (this step is very often forgotten).
Miscellaneous
Contact a baby-sitter and make one or two copies of your new key sets.
Carry out meter reading when leaving the old house, turn off and close all the general utilities meters.

Difficult accessibility from the stairs: often they are narrow or long.
Long distance removals: the moving companies are equipped with large trucks and often it takes a single journey.
PACKING UP ALL THE THINGS
Pack your pieces of furniture and secure them for transport.
One of the tips for do-it-yourself moving is the need, before removing the furniture, to make a sketch on a sheet of paper to remember the position of some details: note the exact position of all doors, drawers and shelves. It is useful to store screws and hardware in different boxes for each piece of furniture. It is advisable to interpose a blanket or a big cardboard between furniture parts. During the transport, the long pieces must be placed vertically and tied firmly to the wall of the van. Also, the fridge should be placed vertically.

In the case of motorcycles of a certain value or with delicate bodywork, such as a fairing motorcycle, it is important to reserve an adequate space and tie it in the most resistant points with some belts in order to keep it vertical during transport. Any trunks or windscreens must be dismantled both for reasons of size and to avoid damaging them; protruding mirrors must be folded up or disassembled too, again to avoid damaging them. It is important that the tank is as empty as possible, this to minimize the possibility of fuel leakage during transport.
